Urea-formaldehyde is a chemical that is commonly used in building materials such as pressed-wood products, glues and adhesives, and insulation materials. The main way that people become exposed to this chemical is through inhalation. Short term health effects associated with exposure to this chemical include watery eyes, coughing, nausea, skin irritation, and a burning sensation of the eyes, nose, and throat. Studies have shown that long-term exposure to urea-formaldehyde is linked to certain cancers of the nasal sinuses and throat. These studies, however, were done with people who used this chemical in the workplace, thus increasing their levels of exposure.
Bleach is a very common cleaning product used in homes, schools, workplaces, and most other facilities. People are exposed to this product through inhalation, ingestion, and skin/eye contact.
