Radon

I don't think many people know what radon is and the health effects that can result due to exposure from it. Before this class, I had heard of radon, but can't say that I knew exactly what it was and how we can be exposed. Now I know that because it is an odorless gas many people are not even aware that they are being exposed to it. Over time, radon exposure can lead to the development of lung cancer. It is the second leading cause of lung cancer right after cigarette smoking.

This is why an important aspect of my national awareness campaign would be to educate the public through factsheets, social media, and outreach teams. Nowadays, social media is the best way to spread the word to populations across the country and the world. Factsheets explaining what radon is, the dangers behind exposure, and ways to test homes for radon would be distributed to communities through local health organizations. In addition, outreach teams would go door-to-door talking with people and distributing informational pamphlets on radon.
Some potential collaborators to this campaign would be local health agencies and companies that produce radon test kits. Also, environmental agencies dedicated to decreasing toxic exposures among the population.
