The Safe Drinking Water Act ensures that the water we drink meets standards for quality to ensure our health and safety. The Clean Water Act was created to control water pollution in the United States. It gave the EPA the authority to set wastewater standards for industries and ensures that surface waters meet safety standards for human recreation. The Clean Water Act also benefits wetlands and the wildlife it supports.
The importance of having laws that protect our public water is immense as it ensures that we have access to safe and clean water for many different uses. It is important that we have clean water in order to avoid the spread of disease and to stay healthy. Having clean water for the foods that we grow is essential because watering our crops with contaminated water will contaminate the food and thus be harmful to our health when we eat those foods. Ensuring that the fish we eat were swimming in clean water is also important for similar reasons. Recreational uses of water such as for swimming or other activities requires clean water in order for us to not be exposed to contaminated water.
Overall, the availability of clean water whether for drinking, recreational purposes, or other uses protects us from being exposed to bacteria and chemicals that are found in contaminated water and can make us extremely ill. Safe drinking water has resulted in lower levels of mortality, for countries that have access to clean water, due to a reduction in waterborne illnesses. It is something we often take for granted, most of us in this country have access to clean water straight from the tap so we don't think about the time and energy it takes to produce the water and ensure it's clean for us to use.

Only by contaminated drinking water we are not exposing to the chemicals, people can also be exposed to the chemical and bacteria through the contaminated water that are used in recreation and greenings purposes in our environment.
